This is the official gardening blog of Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard, affectionately known as The Hub. Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard is a food pantry in Bloomington, Indiana with a vibrant gardening and nutrition program. We created this blog so our staff and volunteers could provide some insight on our programs while sharing gardening advice, healthy cooking tips, updates on food & gardening events, and insight into food security issues.
The Hub currently operates three garden projects – the Banneker Garden behind Banneker Community Center (Seventh Street and Elm), the Crestmont Community Garden in Crestmont Park (Sixteenth Street and Illinois), and the Harmony Garden at Harmony School (Second Street and Woodlawn). Each garden has a volunteer coordinator and a team of volunteers who plant, weed, water, compost, and harvest food for the pantry. Many of our volunteers are also patrons of the food pantry and enjoy having the chance to give back to the community.
